It is a dark and stormy night in the forest; the rain falls in torrents, the wind moans, wolves howl, and occasional flashes of lightning pierce the gloom as you drive along this unfamiliar road. You must have taken a wrong turn somewhere and entered an alternate reality.
With growing alarm, you watch your car's range meter creep down to zero. You look in vain for a charging station along the deserted road. As your car slows to a crawl, the full moon sails out from behind a black cloud, illuminating a pair of crumbling stone gateposts on either side of the road.
Your car finally creaks to a halt in the courtyard of a vast ruined castle. No ray of light comes from its tall black windows, and its broken battlements show a jagged line against the moonlit sky.
Much to your surprise, there is a charging station here. Maybe whoever lives (if that is the right word) in this castle will let you use it. You get out of the car and walk up to the great door. It is old and studded with large iron nails, and set in a projecting doorway of massive stone. A bell-rope hangs beside it.

You pull the bell-rope. At first, nothing happens. Then, after a few seconds, a deep clang resonates through the castle walls, followed by another, and another, and another. The bell rings thirteen times before it stops.
Disturbed by the bell, a cloud of bats swoops down and circles around you, then disappears into an opening in the ground near by.
Eventually you hear heavy footsteps approaching, the sound of rattling chains and the clanking of massive bolts drawn back. The great door opens and you are greeted by a tall man wearing a black cape. His face is pale, almost purple, and he speaks with a strange accent. "Velcome to Castle Transcosia! I am ze Count, vot is it you vont?"
You ask him if you can use his charger. "Viz plezure," he smiles, revealing his long, sharp canine teeth as he connects it, "but in return zere is something you can do for me vile your car charges. I left two hundred dollars in ze labyrinz. Go down zat passage, collect it for me, and if you return by ze same passage, you may depart unharmed."
You wonder if the Count's labyrinth has some sinister purpose, but you quickly set this thought aside and determine to boldly explore it.
